Here’s How To Keep Your House Cool this Summer

Summer is coming to the Aussie part of the world, and with it comes the beautiful sunny days and warmer weather. It’s awesome! Except when it leaves you hot, sticky and sweaty.

And we really don’t want to suffer in sweat when we are in the (supposedly) comfort of our own home, right?

Here are some ways to keep your house cool this summer.

Pull down the shades

Direct sunlight coming into the home through windows is one of the reasons your house is hot. To stop your rooms from overheating, remember to keep curtains and blinds closed during the day.

Beyond blinds, add awnings, shades or other shutters to the exterior of your windows. These additional options provide yet another layer of protection from the sun, and are more effective in cooling the house than internal coverings like curtains. Awnings, for example, are said to reduce heating gains by up to 75%.

Ensure good ventilation

Ventilation is one of the ways to regulate the air temperature in your home. When the temperature starts to drop in the evening, open up the windows to let the warm air out and allow the cooler air to come in. Interior doors should be open as well to allow air flow and not trap heat within the rooms.

Fans are also effective in circulating air, helping to cool and ventilate the house.

Plant trees and other greenery

Don’t underestimate the power of that green shrub outside your house. Having some well-placed trees and plants around your property can make a world of difference for the comfort of your home.

Position the trees and plants in the west and south-west direction to shade your house from the direct sunlight in the afternoons. You can also plant shade trees along your sidewalk and driveway, to keep sunlight off the pavement, lowering the temperature around your house.

Get help from the air conditioner

Sometimes, even after doing all the above, our houses are simply not cool enough, especially during 40-degree days. This is when we give thanks for technology and turn on our air conditioner.

LG has recently introduced a new split system air conditioning series to help Australians stay cool and comfortable. The LG WH air conditioners come with built-in WiFi, and allows you to access and control your air conditioner with the LG Smart ThinQ App on your smartphone, even when you are out. This means you can switch on your air con as you leave your workplace, allowing you to return to a cool, comfortable home!

The LG Smart ThinQ app also comes with a Smart Diagnosis function, which provides you with real-time and weekly or monthly energy usage.

Another great feature of the LG WH air conditioner is the Active Energy Control. It allows you to cap the energy consumption of your air-conditioning unit, offering three levels of power reduction for individual energy-saving needs.

With its Plasmaster Ioniser Filtration, you can also breathe cleaner air at home. The Ioniser filtrates the air indoors, while the Auto Cleaning function helps to minimise the formation of mould and bacteria on the heat exchange.
